Arnold | Peter

Peter Arnold is both a renowned fine art photographer as well as an accomplished contemporary artist. He is as adept with his Hasselblad and Canon cameras as he is with oil paint and brushes. His beautiful images have won awards all over the world – including Japan, where his tulip book project was a winner at the 2017 Tokyo International Foto Awards and is now published by teNeues.

He has collaborated with clients such as Disney and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and also the iconic designer, Alexander McQueen, who used Peter’s tulips and orchid-print pictures on his famous flower dresses worn by Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss. Peter’s work is very diverse, but his speciality and love are creating beautifully-lit and dramatic flower studies – especially tulips. And for this reason, over the years, Peter has earned the nickname of ‘The Tulip Man’. Peter is famous for his best-selling flower books, which all have become classics – Tulips, Orchids and Bulbs in Bloom – and also for his stylish, limited-edition flower prints, which are frequently used by interior designers to enhance their projects.

For the love of Tulips. If you love flowers, you will definitely want to take a closer look at Tulips by Peter Arnold

Tulips, such glorious, sturdy flowers which bring color to our gardens in springtime, and brighten our homes as cut flowers, throughout the year. Everybody loves tulips, but nowadays they are usually associated with Holland, which is not their true origin. (…) No other flower has developed such variety of form and color – from delicate pink and creamy white lily flowers, to flamboyant yellow and red striped parrot tulips – these magnificent flowers have been so masterfully captured here, on film by Peter Arnold.

(…) so fat, so solid, no mimsy, flimsy floppiness; just a decisive, upright cluster of bright petals on a no-nonsense shaft of vivid green (…)

Whether they come from a high-end florist or a petrol station forecourt, tulips cannot fail to bring joy. They are the best cut flowers: so fat, so solid, no mimsy, flimsy floppiness; just a decisive, upright cluster of bright petals on a no-nonsense shaft of vivid green. In Peter Arnold’s classic book, redesigned and republished, he captures some of the many forms taken by this most diverse of flowers. (…) Arnold’s blooms glow and pop on the page. Sometimes they’re shown against a dark background, evoking Dutch Golden Age flower pictures. (…) Whether ragged or smooth, open or closed, purest of white or fiery red and yellow, lined up like dancing girls or rudely waving their stamens in your face, these glossy flowers are a delight.
